Beyondblue

Voluntary community service with beyondblue

I am a member of blueVoices, which is the consumer reference group for beyondblue. I enjoy the opportunity to assist beyondblue as I believe it plays an important role in helping Australians improve their health.

I regularly promote beyondblue information materials and their activities on my Facebook and Twitter pages.

Member of blueVoices – the consumer reference group for beyondblue

blueVoices members provide national mental health consumer or carer input into all beyondblue programs. This input varies from giving feedback on new resource development, input into development of beyondblue programs, disseminating materials at events, speaking about personal experience of mental illness at forums or to the media, representation on committees and many other involvements.

27/7/2010 22:05:46 - Provided information comment on SBS Insight website Mental Health forum discussion board about beyondblue Diversity, Multiculturalism and Mental Health information.

My information comment:
"Thank you to SBS Insight for an excellent discussion about mental health. It was interesting to hear the views of some of the audience during the discussion in regard to multicultural differences and how seeking assistance can be difficult due to non-bilingual staff at clinics and hospitals. There is information available on the beyondblue website that caters to many languages. Trust this helps someone. Cheers. http://www.beyondblue.org.au/index.aspx?link_id=102."

Had the opportunity to ask beyondblue CEO Leonie Young this question:
"Question for Leonie Young: Leonie, how much money is beyondblue going to receive from the Federal Government over the next five years?"

Here is Leonie's response:
"Hi Darren, beyondblue has commitment from fed govt for $44m over next 5 years, our programs include the bb website, 24/7 info line, support for pre and postnatal depression initiative, kidsmatter early childhood, kidsmatter primary schools, tackling stigma in the community, workplace programs, rural mh, conducting research, promoting evidence on early intervention and prevention, our programs listed on website at http://www.beyondblue.org.au/."
