Australian country music icon, Lee Kernaghan OAM, 43, has been announced Australian of the Year for 2008.
Lee's efforts in raising over AU$1,000,000 during the last 10 years for drought affected communities are testament to his ongoing dedication to assist Australians in need.
Australian Prime Mininster Kevin Rudd presented Kernaghan with his award at a ceremony at Parliament House in Canberra.
Lee Kernaghan is Patron of Aussie Helpers. Aussie Helpers is an organisation that assists drought affected farmers and their families.
David Bussau AM was named Senior Australian of the Year, and MotoGP champion Casey Stoner was announced Young Australian of the Year.
